The Paul Smith’s College Society of American Foresters Student Chapter had an exciting opportunity this semester to attend the national conference in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Eight students attended the conference, led by Joseph Orefice, one of the school’s most integral forestry professors. Nearly 1,400 people attended the conference.

We attended several technical talks about various topics relating to current forestry issues, such as climate change, urban forestry, logging, agroforestry and sustainability. We also made some incredible networking connections at the conference’s career fair. Most of the large U.S. forestry companies were there. To top it all off, the club was able to spend half a day visiting various southern forests in and around Baton Rouge. This experience was new and rewarding to all of us. This event was, for me, one of the many perks of attending Paul Smith’s College.
