Hand-crafted items support peace-building and conservation in Guatemala.
TRiO-SSS is coordinating a fund-raiser forĀ Community Cloud Forest Conservation, an organization in Guatemala that alleviates poverty and protects forests through education, reforestation, community development, leadership scholarships, and ecological improvements to agriculture.
- CCFC believes that holistic human / community development through education and capacity building is the key to conservation and peace building in Guatemala’s central highlands.
- Education, especially for young women, is key to the healthy and sustainable development of this region.
CCFC’s Build and Beyond Capital Campaign seeks to raise $75,000 before June of 2016 to help build and furnish critical infrastructure needed to house and educate the Q’eqchi’ Maya central highland outback villagers. A very generous donor has agreed to match the first $10,000 worth of donations until the end of October.
Handmade, fair-trade items to benefit CCFC
TRiO-SSS will have handmade – fair trade goods, baked goods, and raffle tickets available for purchase until the end of October. Special thanks to PSC faculty member Deborah Naylor and her non-profit organization Both Your Hands for supplying the hand-crafted goods, which supports sustainable community development around the world. You can check out a sample of these low-cost, fair trade items in the display case upstairs in the library.
Stop by the TRiO Office (Room 207 of the library) and see what we have for purchase, and keep a lookout for our emails on when we will have tables set up around campus.
