Interview with Provost Nicholas Hunt-Bull

It’s the start of the year, and there are many new faces on campus. At least one of them – new to returning students as well as first-year arrivals – is hard to miss. You might see him unfolding his very tall frame from the very compact car he drives, or notice his colorful, home-sewn shirts, or even admire his hair, which though modestly trimmed now, has a reputation of unruly behavior. This, dear Smitties, is our new Provost: Dr. Nicholas Hunt-Bull.

Pietra di Bismantova Trek

In May 2015, I participated in a trip to Italy with two professors and 13 students, including myself. This was a study-abroad trip for a class called Protected Landscapes Community. In this class, we had to create a Sustainable Tourism Marketing Plan for the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines National Park in Northern Italy, comparing it to our Adirondack Park. Our goal was to help them attract more tourists from the US.

Comics, Classes, and Lumberjanes

Paul Smith’s College Professor David Press recommends graphic novel series Lumberjanes. David teaches an English 102 class on comics on the Paul Smith’s College campus, and most of the students in that class are, like him, white male. So, as a married man, comic writer, and teacher – he feels it’s important to teach the problems of the modern comic industry. The problem is that a comic like Lumberjanes stands out in the overflowing market that caters specifically to the demographic of white males.
