The Mercantile is a reimaged college bookstore with merchandise for students, visitors, and the community. Not only will textbooks be available for students along with Paul Smith’s swag, such as t-shirts, keychains, and more–but a growing selection of Adirondack treasures, from balsam sachets to buffalo plaid shirts and blankets!

The Mercantile was transformed through the hard work of faculty, staff, and students. The unique sign at the entrance, and some other special touches, were performed by students Zephyr Brown, Hudson Heberlein, Jared Verblaauw, Nate Shocke, under the supervision of Forestry Professor Dave Simmons.

The former bookstore has been transformed into the new student recreation center–now more than double in size. It’s a place where students can meet, relax, shoot some pool, and even throw a few darts.

In true Smitty style, the ribbon-cutting ceremony, administered by Paul Smith’s College President Dan Kelting will not involve any actual ribbons—you’ll have to attend to see what’s “in store” instead!

August 20 marks the 199th birthday of Apollos “Paul” Smith, the namesake of the college and the hamlet, born on August 20, 1825, in Milton, Vermont.
